Duvet. Check!

Yea! Brand new duvet has officially moved onto the bed. And I just love it!

Finished size is 90x90. Which felt simply gi-normous when I was putting it all together. It was pretty much comedy of errors watching me manhandle all that fabric through the machine. Serious kudos to those of you who can quilt such giant pieces!

Next up, I'm going to do a few quilted pillows for the chair in my room. You think I should use the left over pieces from the duvet cover and put them together in a way other than string piecing? Or should I use different fabrics all together? I don't want it to be too 'matchy matchy' so I'm leaning towards all different fabric but I just have so many great strips left I hate to just put them into the scrap bin. Oh, decisions decisions!

    It's so fabulously fantastic! I want one for my bed! :) as for pillows, I don't think you can go wrong. If you make something out of the same fabric then just change it up a bit. And if you use different fabric then you can switch it up however you want. It's a win win!!!!

    oh wow! this came out nice!

    i like the idea of different fabrics, only because i like quilted items to stand on their own, rather than match.

    Fab duvet. I would continue the string theme in the cushions but a different type of string - like spider's web or kaleidoscope.

    Fabulous! I sayuse the same fabrics in a different design framed in a neutral so they stand out against the duvet :-)

    Because I don't like matchy matchy either, I would suggest taking the fabric from only one block on the quilt and make a pillow out of that. Then add pillows in different fabrics so you will get a balance of matching and contrasting. Or do the pillow backs out of the matching fabric and the front out of the different fabric.

    It is beautiful. Congratulations on finishing such a massive project!! I'd be tempted to go simple with pillows since there is so much action on the bed...maybe a larger print square with a simple white border around it, or even a big 9-patch with white.

    Hi Laurie, your duvet cover is really beautiful. I'm curious to know, since this is a duvet cover and thus not quilted, what size seam allowances did you use to piece together your blocks?

    Victoria: Thanks so much! I still used 1/4" allowances for my block but 1/2" seams for attaching the back. The previous duvet I made used the same allowances and it has held up really well.

    I'd love to try a duvet cover but worry about all the raw seems if its not quilted, especially when washing it, is there anything i can do to make it more secure?
