Modern Whimsy Giveway + a Bejeweled Pattern

Who wants some Modern Whimsy? :) And to sweeten the giveaway, Amanda Murphy, a fellow designer with Robert Kaufman and a supremely talented pattern designer, has given me 2 copies of her pattern Bejeweled to giveaway too!

See how pretty Bejeweled is?! Amanda used Modern Whimsy for her sample and it is simply gorgeous.

Robert Kaufman cut some ten-squares of Modern Whimsy for Amanda and me so we are each hosting giveaways and giving away 10-square packs and including a copy of the Bejeweled pattern for the winners.  These ten-squares include one piece of each print, so they won't be enough to complete the larger version of the quilt, but you will be well on your way!

I'll be drawing two winners on January 26, 2012 and Amanda's giveaway will wrap up the same day. So after you leave your comment here, hop over to visit Amanda for more chances to win.

To enter here, tell me something about your "dream fabric".  It can be something that is currently on the market, or something you spied in the past, or something you've imagined.  What is it about the fabric that makes it so dreamy for you? It is a specific motif or color? Or is it all about the scale?  I'd love to hear all about it. Make sure you leave me a way to contact you.

And if you're a new visitor, I'd love it if you sign up to follow my blog!

  1. I love the "Heirloom Collection" by Joel Dewberry. The saturated hues tug at my heart strings. I dream of wrapping up in a quilt made of this loveliness!

  2. My dream fabric? Right now I'm loving quilters linen...it's so versatile!

  3. I still love the Far Far Away 2 fabric. The only thing is, I tend not to be very creative with it, as I don't want to lose the pictures and end up cutting large squares. For full on patchwork, anything with polka dots!

  5. I'm a new follower! Purple fabrics are my favorite, and some of my favorites in purple are Kate Spain's Terrain, and Tufted Tweets, coincidentally!

  6. I'm always looking for good background prints, especially interesting tone-on-tone prints. Neutral colors are good but also very pale shades of green or blue would be nice. And if they have swirls or dots that's even better!

  7. This is gorgeous! Right now I am looking for a basic, graphic black and white print. Gray and white would work, too.

  8. My dream fabric is kind of an odd vision. I have a running joke with my fiance about piracy and a kraken (also the nickname of our cat). I'd love a vintage-y map looking piece of fabric with a kraken and a pirate ship. Odd, I know.

  9. I have a love affair with pindot fabrics. Not just dots, but the really teeny tiny dots. They're getting a little easier to find, but still not common. When I find a nice one, I buy yards.

  10. My perfect fabric would be a modern print with medium-jewel tones and would be very whimsical. A few bees tucked into the pattern would be the icing on the cake! I love flowers & swirls, so it would definitely include both. :)

  11. I love all fabric, but my favorite is Mary Englebreit fabric. It is hard to find, so I grab it up whenever I find some!

  13. I really don't have a favorite fabric, but like clean crisp designs. I would love to see "Butterfly Fling" come back. I love Amanda Murphy's patterns because the have clean lines with a modern twist. When I see a fabric I like, I can't get it out of my mind until I use it.

  14. My dream collection would be modern and graphic and inspired by underwater life. I love going to aquariums and find the creatures and plants under the water so beautiful and colorful and interesting. Btw, I'm in love with Modern Whimsy--the blue and green lamb print is my favorite fabric I've seen in ages!

  15. My dream fabric is out there somewhere waiting to be created. Large scale, graphic muted colors which doesn't sound very trendy but hey, maybe I'm ahead of the curve! I love your designs, especially for children's prints.

  18. I have many fabric loves, but my dream fabric would be one that looked like the comforters from my grandmother's house. They were a pale yellow with pink rosebuds, and as a little girl I thought they were just the prettiest things in the world. When my grandmother's house was sold, we got one of the comforters but it had already started to disintegrate. I would love that rose print as a cotton quilting cotton!

  19. I love stitch in time by Malka! Just got my fat quarters yesterday but I would love more!

  20. As corny as it sounds, my dream fabric is a good Hawaiian print (I live in Hawaii). I'm not sure what it looks like, but it is not a garish, scream-in-your-face fabric as a lot of Ebay & Etsy "Hawaiian" prints are! Someday, I hope to find it!

  35. I love the colors you used with Tufted Tweets. I also really like a lot of the Nicey Jane fabrics by Heather Bailey and Shades of Grey by Daisy Janie. 47. Bejeweled is SO pretty! I'd love to make something as pretty. :0
I shared two of my dream fabrics over on Amanda's website. Now I'll share with you one of my different dreams... and it's almost nap time on Sunday after church so I'll make it quick.
This one is about Birds - (I'm a Byrd myself) This fabric is blue - aqua / sky / purply blues in pastel colors almost like a batik is the background. And brilliant blue birds (colors of blue blended so bright they almost hurt your eyes to look at them) are flying about and doing "birdy" things. There are nests with proud mamma birdies sitting on eggs, some nests have tiny cutesy baby birds with their mouths open - some birds are flying with ribbons in their tiny peckers tieing up beautiful bows on trees. There are birds sleeping with nighties on - a night cap and a night dress. Let's get crazy - some birds are getting married and some are old and in a rocking chair - a few are in school learning (one is a wise old owl). There are birds on a picnic, and birds in every situation and career you can think of. Ok - enough to give you the idea of my dream. Sometimes my dreams may be a bit psychedelic for a few people - but they are usually a lot of fun. :0

  56. this morning, i saw a very well dressed young woman in a restaurant. she wore an oversized sweater jacket made of what looked like a wool blend larger scale black and grey print of different diamond shapes. it was absolutely perfect! i was out with my three young children by myself, so i couldn't ask her about her sweater. but i will now be hunting for a fabric with a similar quality and look so i can make my own sweater jacket like hers. i'm hoping to draw out the print pattern tonight and just turn it into framed art for now so i won't forget my inspiration.

My dream fabric is something I'll love forever, that I won't tire of or look back on fondly with the same kind of affection I feel for the woman who sat next to me at work and ate lunch with me and of whom I was quite fond but know that we would now have little in common except for our shared past. Do you know what I mean? I want the fabric equivalent of the women who have been my friends since I was in grade school (the '70's) or high school (the '80's) and are my dear friends still.

  113. My dream fabric is usually what I'm working with at any given moment. My very favorite fabric in the whole world is one that is no longer available. It was a Maywood Studio fabric from several years ago. Black with multicolored foil flower shapes-blue, purple, orange, yellow, green. I have a tiny stash left of it that I am hoarding. I used a small amount of it for my Kindle cover, and it makes me smile. I love Amanda's designs, especially Bejewelled. It looks so fun & fresh made up with your fabrics.

Since then, leftover scraps of this fabric has made an appearance in several of my subsequent quilts.

  131. My dream fabric would be swirls, with dots and maybe another design but, mostly it would be in the perfect color of purple and blue. I'm really picky with the shade of purple I love so much although I never have been known to turn down anything purple.

I've got my fingers crossed because Amanda's Bejeweled pattern is one of my top three favorites of all her patterns. I hope to make that quilt for my Granddaughter.

  132. My dream fabric is Arcadia by Sanae. I have a stash of it at home and I love it so much that I am having a hard time deciding when to cut it up. :( I love the orange and aqua together. I find my sneaking downstairs to my stash to look at it and touch it. My fiance makes fun of me but I love it!

  136. I love the bright, happy colors - it looks like it's perfect for the Bejeweled. My favorite fabrics are still the jewel toned balis - I bet they would look fabulous in this quilt too!

  137. My dream fabric would be something for my little boys that is neither too babyish or too grown-up. Maybe some subtle graphic prints but in bright colours as all the UK high st stores only sell boys clothing in khaki, grey & navy so would be nice to make them something funky!

  138. Oh I love anything with navy and flowers.....you can find it shabby chic but I'd love to see it in something more contemporary with a few others to support it...a nice pin dot and tone or tone?

  139. Yellow and red with beautiful flowers and coordinating prints. Just don't see it. I had some once and used every bit because it made me so happy.

  142. My dream fabric is the tiny scale print that looks like a small moth or flower from FMF. I see it all over people's quilts and I wish I had some, in every color available. I really love this fabric and I have none. I do love all your bird fabrics and I have none of those either, but they are cool.

...I would also love to get my hands on some old bobby pin fabric from, I think, Kaufman circa 2004.

  148. My dream fabric happens to be blue/purple at this time. Pattern not real important, just the color.

  149. this is a very pretty quilt and such cute fabric. My dream fabric is a black and white thin stripe that is a bit on the wonky side. It was great to use for bindings or trim on a quilt or pillowcase. Haven't seen any more for a few years.

  150. My dream fabric is the "impossible fabric" in that its a fabric that would match everything. I would love to be able to have the perfect fabric to match up with whatever I'm planning to sew next. Thanks for the opportunity to win your giveaway. I am a follower.

  151. I love finding a perfect shade of red, not too tomato-ey, not too dark, just right.

  152. My dream fabric would feature the subtle pink medallions from the wallpaper in my childhood bedroom. I would love to have a tangible piece of that "memory" to keep forever. Thanks for the great giveaway!!

  153. My dream fabric. It would be a single roll like brown paper from an old fashioned general store. I would not need any other fabric ANYWHERE in my studio because this magic roll would instantly become whatever I needed every time I rolled off a length. It would change right before my eyes to embody "the quilt in my head" at that particular moment. Lush greens and saturated blues, passionate purples, vibrant reds and sparkling oranges. After being cut from the roll, the piece's color would stabilize and the roll would neatly await my next project.

  155. Hmmm, I thought I posted already but I can't find it so I'll try again. My dream fabric line is Amy Butler Ginger Bliss. There is a Kimono print that is my favourite fabric of all time. If it ever came back in print, I'd buy a bolt!

  156. My dream fabric right now is to find some Paddington Bear fabric! My mom made me a pillow case a while ago to take with me when I did study abroad in London. I've been looking around to see if anyone still has any left so I can include it in a quilt now!

  157. I'm always on the lookout for musical fabric! I'm a music lover & am collecting music fabric. I'd love to find some in teal or aqua. Thanks for a chance to win! :)

  158. I can dream up lots of fabric designs! I put a sunset color on Amanda's blog, but here I think I want a nice reproduction red from the 1860s, something with a small figure on it, maybe tiny black cherry stems and leaves. It will be colorfast, of course, and have a whole line of coordinating fabrics so I can make a King-sized quilt! Thank you!

  159. Colors are what attract me rather than the design. I don't have a dream fabric, but go for purples blues and greens.
