New fabric is here at last!!

It's taken a while to get all of the new patterns just right, but I'm super excited to announce that the new fabrics are here and available for sale.

Animal Sherbet - Elephants, giraffes, rhinos and dots in a delicious sherbet colored palette. Also has a coordinating stripe. I just love the playful nature of these designs. Even though they have animals in them, they feel very grown up to me. But darn how cute would a wee little skirt in Elephants be?

Birdies on Couches - Birdies and chesterfield sofas, dots in a lovely aqua and lush yellow palette. I started working in this palette for the eye pillows and fell in love with it. The aqua dots is sooooo pretty. I can't wait to start sewing with it. Also part of this collection is a pattern that is my modern interpretation of Bird on a Wire. If only I could figure out how to get it made into wallpaper. It comes in yellow and white/aqua.

Would love to hear what you think of the new fabrics! I'm working on some pillow covers with all of the fabrics and should have lots of new pillows to list in the next 2 weeks. So stay tuned!

The stash

It's Fat Quarter Month over at Sew Mama Sew and I wanted to play along. In my book, there's almost nothing better than better than getting to play with my fabric stash...So here we go!

What do you usually sew?
I love to sew anything patchwork. Pillows and quilts are my favorites but I have been known to obsessively sew aprons and journal covers.

When you shop for fabric, what size cuts do you usually buy? (i.e. If you see something beautiful, but you don’t have a use for it right away, how much do you buy?)
I used to buy fat quarters but found that they ran out too quickly so I try to buy halves as a minimum instead. But if I really, really love it I'll probably get a few yards.

Do you buy on impulse or do you go out looking for something you need?
I generally go out for something I need and then buy 10 more things on impulse. Fabric shopping with me is an activity not for the feint of heart and it's really rough on my wallet.

Are you a pre-washer? If you are, do you wash your fabric before you need it, or only when you’re ready to use it?
I am not a pre-washer. I know it's going to bite me one day, but I just can't make myself take the time.

Do you iron it?
I love crisp, fresh looking fabric. I iron all the time while I'm sewing.

How do you sort it? (color, print size, collection, etc.)
I sort by size and by color.

Do you have any special folding techniques?

I fold like they do it like they do it in clothing stores. I use a ruler to roll my fabric around so it's all pretty much the same width on the shelf. It makes me a little crazy to have the fabric messy...My car on the other hand can be a wreck! For yard or larger pieces I use a 6 inch ruler. For 1/2 yard or less pieces I use a 4 inch ruler. Anything smaller than a fat eighth is sadly squished in 2 Ikea boxes. Those are the boxes I always head to first though!

How do you store your fabric?

Since I have recently downsized into a 1 bedroom apartment (yep...it's pretty cozy in here!), where a dining room usually would be, you'll find my studio. I have 2 book cases filled with fabric and supplies. The pics are a bit dark, but you get the idea!

What tips do you have for building up a well-rounded stash?
Buy a range of pattern sizes. Small, medium and large. And really only buy fabrics you really love. I think it's super fun to buy fabric when I travel.

When do you say enough is enough?
Is there such a thing???

What are some of your favorite stash-busting projects?
Applique pillows. They are a great way to feature some of your favorites in a fun project.

Do you have a current favorite print in your stash? Let’s see it!
I'm going to use this moment for shameless promotion and show off some of my own designs!

Happy New Year and New Design

Hello everyone and happy 2009! I've been busy working on new designs and wanted to share one of my favorites. When I was growing up, my grandmother had this beautiful yellow flowered sofa that I just loved. This design reminds me of that piece. I've ordered a yard so I can check colors. I can't wait to see how it turns out. What do you think?
Here's the design in repeat at roughly 21" wide:

The red and blue fabric is for sale!

Update: Guess, what? Birdies on Chairs (the version with the green birdies) won Spoonflower's Fabric of the Week contest! Thanks to everyone for voting for me!

And I'm working on a quilt that features all the green and blue designs and hope to get it wrapped up this week. I'll post pics as soon as it's done.

The reds turned out exactly like I wanted them to! So excited. I just uploaded a few fat quarters onto the store. Hope everyone is having a great holiday season!

And Lucinda at Septemberbird had this great pic on her site of her kitty helping with her sewing up some of the blue and green birdies. I can't wait to see what she makes!

New colors

I've gotten quite a few requests for the fabric in red (like my blog header), so I've got some on order. When I had the reds printed in the past they didn't turn out quite as I had wanted so I never put that fabric up for sale. But I think we've got the red nailed down! So if you're interested in the fabric in red, let me know and I'll set some aside for you.

Here's some jpgs of the designs and I will post the pictures of the printed fabric when it arrives!

How cool is this?

I got a note from the folks over at Spoonflower and they have included a picture of one of my pillows on their newly redesigned home page. How cool is that? Those are my chair pillows there on the left...

I owe you an update on the show but am pooped and am off to bed. Just wanted to share the cool news!
